C.A.M.B.I.O and CLEA’s Bienvenida Event

Hello everyone,
I am very excited because I have been working really really hard on getting things started for C.A.M.B.I.O to be a well known club for Latino/ Chicano students and mainly undocumented students at Chabot College.  As Vice- President, I have a friend of mine who works in the Financial Aid Building.  Therefore, we are getting together to organize a presentation that will be informing Chicano/ Latino students (citizens) about how to fill out their applications for Financial Aid, and I will be basing on financial support for undocumented students.  I have already met the students and talked to them about my goals for C.A.M.B.I.O and many of them supported me.  Also, today there was a welcome event or “Bienvenida” at Chabot College were all the Latino staff and faculty gather together with the students in order to inspire them and encourage them.  I had the opportunity to meet other students that share the same cause as me.  Also, I talked to M.E.Ch.A, PUENTE and CLEA members to sort of brake the barriers that separate us.  It is well known that in order to be strong we need to get together and that is my point:  To make allies instead of competition.  They all seem very flexible and they agree that we need to help each other.  We are separate clubs but our cause and message is the same.  So I’m really excited for that!!!  I didn’t post for a while because I had my first midterm, which was kind of challenging but I’m confident I did good on it! :]

Take care,

Mari

C.A.M.B.I.O at Chabot College

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to share with you that I already submitted the application to make C.A.M.B.I.O an official club on campus at Chabot College. I was very surprised but extremely exited because I have as on- campus advisor my English professor. She is a very active person and likes to fight for social justice. She’s just amazing person to have in my team. Also, this Friday I am going to meet with a student from CSUEB. He has been working on informing students at his unioversity about the Dream Act so far I can say that even though we are a few, I have a strong team! I will keep on posting future events… Good luck everyone! And if you guys are planning an event, please feel free to contact me I’ll spread the word here! :]
